HangulHover Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
HangulHover is a macOS app for reading Korean: a hover dictionary, area select and flashcards. It works without an account, without tracking, and without sending your data to any server.
Data we collect
None. HangulHover does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data.
- No account is required.
- No analytics SDKs, ad networks, or third-party trackers are embedded.
- No usage data, device identifiers, or crash reports are sent to us.
- No ads.
- The app makes no network requests in normal use. Links you click open in your browser.
Data stored on your device
Your study data stays on your Mac, in the app's sandbox container. This covers saved words, review history, notes, your own glossary entries and settings. It is not sent anywhere. Deleting the app and its container erases it.
Screen Recording
The only permission HangulHover needs is Screen Recording. It asks for it once, on its welcome screen, because both hover mode and area select read the screen. It never uses Accessibility or input monitoring.
In hover mode the app captures a small image around the pointer (about 320 × 120 points). In area select it captures the rectangle you drag. The text in the image is recognized on your Mac with Apple's Vision framework. Images are never stored and never sent to the developer or anyone else. Capture runs only while hover mode is on, or once for an area you select.
Korean Cards sync
HangulHover can exchange saved words and their review schedule with Korean Cards, the companion app for iPhone and iPad, which is also coming soon. The sync uses a file that you create and send yourself, for example with AirDrop. Nothing goes through a server, and nothing else leaves your Mac.
Purchases
HangulHover is a one-time paid purchase on the Mac App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions or advertisements. Please refer to Apple's privacy policy for how Apple processes purchases.
Text-to-speech audio
Korean audio is generated on-device by Apple's built-in speech synthesizer. No audio request is sent to any server.
Children's privacy
HangulHover collects no personal data of any kind. The app does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
